Pros

4 day work week and remote work.

Cons

Company culture sounds great at the beginning, but you’ll quickly learn it is toxic and steps over the boundaries of professionalism. Protecting the company’s sisterhood matters more than job performance. Working here requires a high level of emotional energy while offering compensation packages that are much lower than similar roles. Health and retirement benefits are a joke. CEO puts on a fake persona and is too involved in day-to-day procedures of the company; can’t see past her own faults to run the company better.

I would like to speak directly to this comment, as it's important: "Protecting the company's sisterhood matters more than job performance'. The 'sisterhood' is our terminology for our company culture. It has less to do with the female expression of the word and more to do with how we actively support each other in our work and in our lives. One can get more clarification on our use of that word on our about us page of the website (www.herecomestheguide.com/about/about-here-comes-the-guide). What you say here is absolutely true. Protecting the culture of our company, where we have a no-tolerance policy for drama or talking disparagingly behind the backs of your coworkers, is our #1 priority. To clarify -- I do not mean just talking about leadership in a negative light as you do here -- this goes for talking about ANY staffer behind their back without looking to resolve potential conflict with them directly. We take this very seriously, and it is a fire-able offense, as is stated in multiple ways from Day 1 of working for us. This is more important to us than any other indicator of job performance. We do not tolerate toxic conversations about fellow staffers, and we will not apologize for this.

Pros

Our management team is truly invested in our happiness and success, both on and off the clock, which means a lot to me. I appreciate that they consistently have reasons for the "why" of their decisions and communicate them. The reasoning is always working toward having a sustaining, profitable business and because this is a worker-owned business, those profits are shared amongst the employees. Our workplace cultivates a culture of minimal drama—there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and lifting each other up. To top it off, having a four-day workweek shows that work/life balance is authentically valued.

Cons

We are a fully distributed team so everyone works from home. I sometimes miss the comradery of an office, but it's worth the tradeoff.

Pros

Working fully remote. Working with so many wonderful, kind, intelligent women. Heart-focused selling because the team genuinely cares about clients. HCTG could be an ok company for someone starting their career after college!

Cons

A lot could be listed here, but pay and diversity stand out as the biggest problems. Most employees are not making a livable wage; on the other hand, the CEO and COO will rave about their vacations and lavish family weddings during team meetings. There isn’t a structure or timeline for raises. Employees are told that the profit share is the reason they can't get a raise, but the profit share always changes and is never guaranteed. You’ll notice there isn’t much diversity in staff photos on the website. The company made a DEI push years too late and it fell flat because leadership doesn’t realize that their “narrow gate” hiring mentality will always benefit heterosexual white women who have a specific personality type. The brand showcases diverse and inclusive weddings, but that doesn’t translate to the team environment. Please be aware that some of the positive reviews here were written by employees who are close friends with the CEO and COO. Their experiences are not aligned with what newer employees outside of the leadership circle will experience.

Absolutely agree; this company is full of wonderful, kind, and intelligent individuals who deeply care about their clients and their coworkers. I do want to address a few of your other comments, as they lack a lot of context or are blatantly untrue. There is definitely a structure and timeline for pay increases. Each role in the company has a pay band, and there is a quarterly review process in place, which we have done for many years. Our compensation structure is designed to walk the fine line of getting staff as much money as possible over the course of the year while providing as much job security as is possible. For a business in a very cyclical industry, we must ensure we protect against layoffs as much as possible. This philosophy has resulted in ZERO layoffs, even during Covid when the hospitality industry was basically shut down entirely. The company's profit is shared amongst all employees (after 1 year of service) equally – regardless of tenure. This is a very rare benefit as it guarantees that as much money as possible is given back to the staff. On the DEI front, we have a consultant who is currently working with the leadership team on many initiatives, including hiring. The leadership team is working diligently with a commitment to continue to run an inclusive and diverse company. Yes, we have work to do, as almost all companies do. And we are doing that work. Lastly, I will state that we DO have high expectations for the 8 hours a day, 4 days a week that our staff works. We also have a 32 hr work week, where employees get paid a full 40 hrs/week. When we are working, we do expect high quality output.
