Pros
Genuinely inspiring vision for a greener future, which has attracted ambitious, talented and hard working people who are a joy to work with on a daily basis. There is a great focus on building and maintaining a positive culture at the company where we can be open and supportive of each other. This is helped by regular team-building events and social days. Company shares as part of compensation package so employees have a stake in the company as we grow rapidly.
Cons
Below average base salary, especially considering the high workload, current cost of living crisis, and that we are working in a highly specialised scientific industry with talented individuals. Minimum pension contributions. Although the shares in the company do offset these financial drawbacks somewhat, if not completely. The workload is ramping up, yet the company has failed to maintain an adequate staffing level to ensure work can be performed to the same high standards as previously without frequently working unpaid hours beyond those contracted. We are frustratingly slow to react to the need for more staff, and must hold interviewees to impossible standards because nobody new has come in in months now. A start up mentality also leads to a scattergun approach of employees being expected to keep on top of multiple roles which ideally would each be covered by individuals and specific departments, and thus being spread thin. I am sympathetic that this was necessary as a new start up, but we should be moving away from this now and creating new dedicated positions.
