Dear HSCian, We are glad to know that you value HSC’s employee-centric culture. With regard to the concerns shared in the “cons” section of your review, we would like to clarify that HSC has never positioned itself as being in the top quartile purely in terms of compensation. Instead, our focus has consistently been on offering a well-rounded value proposition—comprising a comprehensive benefits framework, a supportive and enabling work environment, a family-like culture, and opportunities to work on cutting-edge technologies for global customers. Together, these elements make HSC a preferred workplace in our industry. What may have been perceived as internal politics could, in some cases, stem from misunderstandings or gaps in communication. We strongly encourage you to engage with your manager, Engineering Group Head, Engineering Head, or even Mr. Vinod Sood, MD, as part of our open-door culture. You may also share your feedback or concerns anonymously through platforms such as Amber, Q2M, and Zero Hour. Nevertheless, we wish many more years of your happy association with HSC.

Pros

Great learning environment overall, especially if mentored under the right type of person (this factor is critical especially if employed in its India office - most US-based Hughes Systique and Hughes Networks Systems employees - techies or managers - are truly world-class). Great working environment in some projects and groups - the good managers and leads are truly awesome!!!

Cons

Extremely top-heavy org structure - about 40% employees have a 'manager' tag, and about 20% of all employees have corner offices. Number of total employees has remained stagnant over the last 5 years or so - a BIG negative for an aspiring IT Services major. Business acumen of some (not all) of the senior management folks is questionable. House of Extremes - the bad managers can be pathetic at best, horrendous at worst. Sycophantic culture has permeated some parts of the company. Generally considered to be a retirement resort for all senior management types (most of whom have been peers from Hughes Software Systems/Flextronics Software Systems/Aricent). Your chances of vertical growth beyond Senior Principal Engineer/Engineer Manager are next to nil if you are not of the right pedigree (read: an Aricent/HNS/HSS/FSS alumnus).
