Love the job, not the rate of pay - Community Support Staff Human Resources Development Institute Employee Review

Pros

Meeting new people and serving the community.

Cons

Long-term employment but as a "state/granted funded" organization, the company itself does not promote growth through education nor salary. When comparing a pay stub from 2008 the gross pay was different, but the net pay was closely the same. The company does not pay into benefits enough to make a difference in what you bring home, which is not sustainable to live. How is it that you can work 80hrs, have health insurance, life etc. through your employer, but need to have either a second job or public assistance to make ends meet? There aren't any educational benefits and being already in debt for other college courses is not a feasible option.

Pros

They will likely hire you.

Cons

-They do not hire based on qualifications, there is more interest in getting people in the door to cover shifts. There is high turnover due to this and it makes the work environment uncomfortable, as most staff are unqualified to perform duties especially in crisis. Most organizations have a gossip culture. HRDI takes this to an extreme. Not only is this encouraged, but it is laughed off when addressed to your supervisor. I had a manager tell me, "It has been like this for 15 plus years, I don't see it changing anytime soon." There is no training to enhance quality of services and no opportunities to advance unless you are friends with upper management. Half of the staff have been friends outside of work for more than a decade. If you do not conform to their culture, which is very similar to a high school, you will not be a priority. this is regardless of your work ethic, credentials, or certifications obtained within the company. Multiple employees were encouraged to obtain certifications with the promise of increasing pay or higher positions. these promises were never fulfilled. Lastly, there are employees with no regard for the care of the clients at multiple sites but in particular the CTC (Community Triage Center) There are employees who sleep throughout the shifts, watch Netflix and Tubi for 8 hours, and do little to assist clients even those seeking shelter and emergency mental health care.
