Pros

There are some stars within the company that make the experience working here just barely tolerable. I was fortunately blessed with a very knowledgeable manager who cared and told it like it was with no frills.

Cons

IGN is restructuring right now and trying to rebuild its image as a premier technology company. During my tenure at IGN, managers were clueless or indifferent toward employee concerns about the work given, product direction, work environment, and below-market, low ball pay structure. CEO reiterates over and over again that "people work at IGN because they are passionate about video games and not the salary" to justify lowball salaries. Seems like all the product managers cared about was completing a project on time and making themselves look good at the expense of employee morale. Also, you we're looked down upon and portrayed as a slacker if you did not spend extra hours after work beyond the 9-5. Management is more reactive than proactive when it comes to employee morale and satisfaction. In addition, hours spent after hours often did go unnoticed and was more of an expectation than a contribution. In fairness, the experience wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either.

Pros

- Great content team - Name recognition grants access opportunities - A handful of supportive veterans who can still get things done

Cons

- New VP is behind the times and a bully to any staff that rank below him, especially women. - Management's first instinct to cut costs is always lay-offs, while investing in projects and acquisitions that only further strain workload - It's always "do more with less," not "what changes would actually allow more productivity?" - Morale is so low many long term staff openly talk about job hunting and two key people have left since new VP's appointment (and are yet to be replaced) - No clear plan for dealing with falling traffic or issues faced due to AI - Technical innovation focused anywhere but editorial
