Pros
Coming from a Malaysia local "cinaman" company doing in-house development, Ideagen was giving me a culture shock. The company is always being one step forward then your expectations. 1. The salary is competitive, easily one level higher than the usual local companies. Eg: Paying manager salary for senior individual contributor, paying senior salary for junior individual contributor. 2. While other companies are suffering at giving maternity leaves according to the labour law (98days), here we are having 26 weeks (182 days) of maternity leave and 6 weeks (42 days) of paternity leave. For new mothers, they only need to work 3 days a week for the first 4 weeks of coming back to work after the long maternity leave. 3. Work life balance is well blended in the company culture. Hybrid working arrangement, you are entitled to 2 days remote working in a week. 19 days of annual leave even if you are still under probation (no, they don't ask for reason when you want to utilize the AL). Come early to the office, and you can go home as early as 3pm on your office day. Normally most people left the office by 4:30pm. 4. Genuine care of the employee wellness. Your health is the number 1 priority here, including mental health and physical health. OT? non-existence. If the project is under delivery pressure and there are upcoming festival holidays or you need to take a few days off, they delay the project delivery date. (**doesn't mean we don't work hard, but quality is more important). Each staff gets 2 heights adjustable monitors for the work-desk and 1 extra for work from home (good quality display which you can see the text sharply without draining your eyes). All office chairs are from Haworth, there even compulsory onboarding training on setting up the workplace to make sure you get as comfortable as possible for work. 5. Technical advancement, project exposures, and career growth. The work standard is high especially if you got the chance to work with the global developers. Far beyond even the best local tech companies you can find in Malaysia. You will work with all possible best practices, latest frameworks, good unit tests coverage, proper QA team, proper app insights logging, all compile warnings are being handled carefully.
Cons
If you compare with the top tier tech companies in the US, we are lacking: 1. Company provided breakfast and lunch in office, 2. Unlimited Annual Leave, 3. Stock allocation, as the company is not currently public listed, 4. Fully remote / homebased work arrangement. Also, the RM1,000 annual limit for wellness allowance can be increased :) The Malaysian office is not getting as much benefits as the global office. As I know there are breakfast provided in office and people get to work fully homebased in the UK office.
