As you pointed out, while some teams build complex database drivers for clients, others work on (and have won recognition for) challenging Apache open-source projects, database engine internals, or developing complicated ETL/ELT solutions across very different storage mediums (NoSQL, SQL, Graph, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, etc.) using disparate languages and environments, to name a few! Your growth plan and weekly 1:1 checkins should have included opportunities to create a path to achieving your personal, skill and leadership goals so you can help develop a future where you continue to enjoy your work with us. It sounds like that's not the case so kindly reach out to anybody on the People team and we'll make sure to straighten things out.
Furthermore, your advice to management is that we should stop micromanaging. We agree that micromanagement is not conducive to a good workplace. We’ll raise this with our senior leadership and management teams and try to have a more honest conversation about where and when this occurs.
Thanks for noting our good work culture - we believe transparency and iterating forward with employee feedback is absolutely key to keeping everybody connected and involved. We also appreciate that you have many employment options to choose from and rather than compete to provide the highest salary to buy all the talent, we try to take a holistic approach to providing a positive work experience beyond just a pay cheque (life's too short, right?). That said, we regularly review our salary bands with the local HR special interest groups, with candidates we interview, and with 3rd party surveys, to make sure we're competitive. We're glad you enjoyed the employee-driven benefits (WFH benefit, Wellness benefit, company sponsored lunches, social events, etc.) we offer beyond a salary and bonus.
