Pros
It’s a union job so there’s that and saftey
Cons
Don’t plan on having a life or enjoying time with your family because it doesn’t happen, when you first go in for an interview it’s all hunky dory sounds great etc, union benefits and pay “rarely work weekends”. 10 hour shifts minimum if they need you to work 12-14 they will tell you around noon that day. Everything is a rush job. Frequent schedule changes unannounced until an hour before you start. If you get hired on as a “shop mechanic” you are and always will be inferior to the “field mechanics”, even though you will be forced to go in the field, and when you don’t you will be shunned and might as well paint a big red target on your back because management will be gunning for you. Don’t count on the union to protect you, because on of the bosses has an in with someone on the board for the union. Everyone is smarter and better than you at everything. When they tell you, you’re going out of town it’s a 2 day notice if you’re lucky. Everyone is miserable I wouldn’t recommend working for this place to my worst enemy . Stay away, it’s an egotistical nightmare and a revolving door for all employees not just mechanics
