Pros
Starting off here, there were a lot of great folks who were deeply passionate about their work and there was a great sense of teamwork and goals for the future in certain departments. However, over the years, I witnessed great employee after great employee get let go for unjust reasons or leaving due to a lack of resources and professional development. Working on the water is a unique working environment that definitely has its perks, and those who work on the water and on the floor are great coworkers.
Cons
If you are looking for folks who care about education and working with the community, please look elsewhere. There is so much pushback against ideas and plans that don't immediately seem like a opportunity for a quick way to make profit. The leadership team wants this place to be more like an entertainment experience. And there is no sense of culture or community within the organization itself. Those who make higher salaries do not interact well with those in lesser paid positions, more specifically, front desk staff. There is also no sense of accountability here, and you will hear folks in leadership positions making crude jokes or disrespectful comments towards women and POC. Professional development is really lacking and you will often feel "left in the dark" on your position and museum matters.
