Cons
The only issue I have is the GS system, or the "The General Schedule is the predominant pay scale within the United States civil service. The GS includes the majority of white collar personnel positions. As of September 2004, 71 percent of federal civilian employees were paid under the GS. The GG pay rates are identical to published GS pay rates". (Wikipedia) The issue I have with GS is that some positions are a "Grade Raises" while others are just "Step Raises" meaning you could be stuck in a GS 5 position that only goes up in step rasies so in 30 years your still a Grade 5 Step 10 never a Grade 6. Other positions can start at a Grade 07 and that person then receives a Grade raise every year to Grade 10. On average a Grade Raises can be between $10,000-$50,000. A Step Rasie is on average between $3,000 & $5,000 which can be a big difference between one position to others so make sure to ask if the position goes up in steps or if it goes up in grades.
