Great team atmosphere and small company social culture promoting a relaxed environment with flexible start and end times on non-field days. Interesting technical challenges and exposure to innovative technology in civil infrastructure diagnostics. Direct contact with engineers and supportive Canadian management noted positively. Work-life balance rated fairly well by employees.

Pros

Competitive pay and benefits package for the GIS technician field compared to other companies in the same field; primarily independent work in a field environment supporting mapping and structural inspections of storm drain systems related to major roadways; periodic travel with per diem; company health and wellness program; earnable yearly vacation days. The work is easy to learn quickly and apply in the field. Inversa Systems provides good job security with long-term work in the Field Technician position for all employees meeting performance expectations.

Cons

This is a small company with pay raises possible based on individual certifications, skills, and work results, but there is little to no room here for real promotions to positions of greater responsibility. The company can increase your technician level (does not necessarily change the type of work you're doing in the field), but promotion to project manager/supervisor (real position promotions) rarely occur regardless of individual related qualifications or prior work performance. Regarding promotions, this company tends to favor tenure regardless of individual work performance, versus individual potential combined with current performance and skill. There really isn't much here in the way of talent management and upward mobility. Employee reviews are not timely, or can seem avoided by management, and tend to focus more on feedback to employees that are struggling or have disciplinary issues, versus thorough feedback to make good employees even better. Discussions regarding real promotions or work outlook for individual employees are rare. You must be satisfied with individual work in a field environment- if you are fully capable and aspire to any true upward mobility, the opportunity might not be there for true promotions. IE, if you're hired as a Field Technician, that is likely where you'll stay regardless of prior work experience, current performance, potential, certifications or other skill sets, or at least until you have been with the company for a VERY significant amount of time.
