      Pros

      Fantastic support, the best pay in the ALT business. Generous holiday time and a lot of downtime deskwarming for studying or doing anything you like. Pay during vacation time is great too. Great for getting your foot through the door. Flights reimbursed.

      Cons

      No real career progression in role itself, but lots of opportunity within the JET culture ‘advisor roles, translation roles at speech contests etc’. If you break contract you’re pretty much on your own.

      Pros

      JETs have support from CLAIR , their Board of Education, and local AJET chapters. CLAIR provides training, orientations, and even funding for teaching certifications.

      Cons

      Some ALTs co-teach actively and feel valued; others get stuck reading from a script. Your school, co-workers, and Board of Education make a big difference.
