Pros

- Pay and benefits seem to be great - Culture is fun and definitely off-kilter in a good way - The overarching attitude is that if people are happy, they'll do a better job, and so there's a lot of effort to make sure people are happy. It really pays off.

Cons

There aren't any cons in my mind, really. But I'll cast a couple things that I see as what could be perceived as cons, and give my 2 cents on why I don't think they're really bad things. - A lot of people work a lot of hours and on weekends, and people might take that as a bit of implicit pressure to do the same; however, I actually haven't really seen real pressure to do so, mostly that seems to be that people really just are into their jobs. I personally don't mind this -- I never see people leaving at 4:59 like at some places I've been. - In some cases there can be some dissonance in the objectives of different teams, where their success metrics can compete a little bit. It presents an interesting analytical problem, actually, and it's forcing us to rethink how to make sure we're picking the metrics that best help the business, not just optimizing metrics which are really a means to an end, not the end themselves.

Pros

I have a high level of autonomy at Jana, which I love. I get the freedom to dictate my work and priorities and mold and change the direction of my workload. I also get to be a part of something meaningful. Each goal we hit as a company is directly related to each individual employee's efforts. The schedule is also flexible, which is rare (i find). As long as you get your work done, when you do it is more or less irrelevant. People at Jana are also incredibly smart and focused, which is refreshing. Everyday I learn something new from my coworkers. My coworkers are also happy to be at work. I am consistently amazed by the company morale. We get a lot done, but we have a lot of fun while doing it. Yes, there are stressful times and deadlines, but the stressful times are lightened by the overall happy atmosphere. We also have a casual dress code and fun office environment, including free snacks, stocked bar, video games and a kegerator!

Cons

Some of the best aspects of a startup can also be the most frustrating. If you need something and we don't have it (yet), we can build it, but you need to be willing to describe what you need and work with others to help create it. If you like having every report/ number/ program ready and at your fingertips, this might be a hard adjustment. Also, the high level of autonomy is not for everyone. Although management is incredibly open and willing to help and support you, they do not hold your hand. You need to make your own choices and work independently, which is not for everyone.
