Pros
Majority of staff were very nice and helpful. Paid on time. I was proud to join the company, and I loved the writing work I was assigned. Travel was fine, meetings were fine. I looked forward to a long career there.
Cons
Heavy criticism. Packed two jobs into one. My salary was considered too high by UK standards, regardless of my 18 years of experience. If I made a mistake and alerted management or IT to let me correct it, I was scolded. When I got confused (and I did, many times), management became exasperated. I recognize that management styles differ between countries. And I suspect my direct manager was under heavy pressure to make this latest venture a success. Still, the lack of support and the caustic comments led me to resign after my work trial was expanded to 9 months, and the warning that I would be under even more scrutiny for an additional 3 months. Common in the U.K, which is fine. But when a writer begins to doubt every word choice, she can't produce her best work. I'd have accepted the extra 3 months if I'd felt supported by management. A single "good job" would have made all the difference. Maybe it's a "sink or swim" philosophy. I don't know.
