Pros

The people you work with are ok for the most part. Once you learn what you need to do, it's easy to keep your head down, and just do your work in order to get by.

Cons

Where to start... There is a lack of leadership from Kedren north all the way down to the recently shut down Head Start division. There is lack of foresight by superiors even though they claim to be well seasoned in the non-profit business. All heads of departments, COO of Head Start, and Director of Kedren overall tend to react instead of plan, and only react once everything seems to be going wrong. In their Head Start, an environment of hostility and lack of interdepartmental cooperation is very much facilitated by administration. There is no availability for growth or a way to move up.

Pros

Good experience in learning about mental illness within communities of color including undocumented clients.

Cons

Re:Adult Outpatient Clinic. No regard for social workers’ time or input. Constant pattern of little to no notification of meetings. They do not provide any formal training or refer the therapists to any DMH trainings. Once employed you learn as you go. There are NO full time psychiatrists. Clients have been forced to wait from 3-7 months for an initial evaluation. The therapists (social workers) are overworked w/demands to produce 7.5 of billing and pressures to overbill (Medicaid fraud)Leaving no time to attend other tasks for clients unless you stay late without pay. Therapists are short staffed which means clients will have to wait two months to see a therapist for the first time. This means that since there is now only one Spanish speaking therapist the wait time is longer and the therapist is pressured to double book to see clients sooner. This causes clients to wait longer to be seen and shortens the amount of time in session to 30 min or less. Recent layoffs resulted in people who had been at kedren and close to retirement losing positions they had held for 15-40 years and new hires who have been there 1-3 months keeping their jobs . None of the clinicians were allowed time to terminate w their clients forcing them to abruptly disrupt all treatment plans.
