Pros
The people are incredible, SO kind, so chill. A real collaborative spirit here, and people are dedicated to their work. Somewhat flexible hours (set times we HAVE to be there, but no clock in/out systems right now, and arrival/departure times have leeway). Taste testing food is fun. Work is pretty easy as long as you have experience working with dry mixes/baking, and you have common sense, can troubleshoot, and knowledge on cleaning procedures for labs.
Cons
Working with raw materials in a lab full of highly concentrated food ingredients can be tough. Garlic oil, onion oil, onion powders, capsaicin oleoresins, chicken flavour distillates… sifting and mixing ingredients means that you smell like your food concentrates at the end of the day, and it sticks to your clothes the entire ride home. I would not recommend fabric seat covers that may soak in the scents permanently. It’s worse if you work in fragrance or flavours development - I have heard stories from coworkers about the overpowering smell working with them.
