Worst company I have ever worked for - Manager Kinsley Power Systems Employee Review

Pros

This company continues to have chronic issues with employee turnover. The reason is the owner and his greed. Here is an example.....the date is 9/11/2001 and the twin towers had just been attacked. Since the company rents portable generators, there was a high demand for rental units. The owner walked into the rental managers office and told him to raise the rates for all rentals by 50%. The rental manager (as well as two others in earshot) were shocked.....the US was just attacked and the owner is more interested in profits. The rental manager refused and quit on the spot. The owner turns to a sales rep and immediately "promotes" him to be the rental manager. This is just one example of how deeply flawed the company is. The owner shows up late 9 days out of 10 and then berates an employee for 15 minutes for being 2 minutes late. I know.....it happened to me.

Cons

Horrible PTO policy, constant employee turnover, doing multiple jobs to cover open positions, and rules that apply to everyone except the owner. Budget is completely unobtainable, and is the justification for paying no bonus (or less than what was promised).

Kinsley Power Systems Response

We appreciate the time you took to provide feedback. While we understand that people have different recollections of experiences, we believe that your recount of several incidents shared is factually inaccurate. We’re proud of our teams and have a track record of respect for our people and their families. We continuously solicit feedback from our employees for ideas and suggestions, including the perks and benefits that are most meaningful to them. This open communication has resulted in a top 401(k) plan with company matching and personalized financial consultations, a solid health insurance program with “extremely generous” company HSA contributions, as described by several third-party benefit consultants. Training is another focus within Kinsley, and we have invested significantly to make sure our teams have the tools they need to succeed and grow. There are numerous examples of the company where the company focuses on the human aspect of our employees. When you join Kinsley you aren’t a number, you’re a human being. We constantly strive to be business with a heart. In addition, Kinsley is a proud, family-owned business that celebrates and supports this country, it’s veterans and its people. Our founder is a military veteran and we are committed to helping those that have served our country. We not only host an annual Veteran’s Day celebration with every member of the company to thank our military veterans (that make up an average of 25% of the company), we work with military transition services to help newly separated veterans move into civilian life and have seen several of our veterans grow with our company. In addition, we’re a family business with a focus on ‘doing the right thing.” The company hosts quarterly town meetings with breakfast or lunch served – most often prepared by volunteer Kinsley associates (we have a talented group of cooks within the ranks!) In these meetings, management makes a point to share the latest at the company, connect with employees company wide and receive feedback. In addition, Kinsley regularly gives back to the community through a company sponsored PTO day for non-profit service work. The company hosts annual family gratitude events – most recently we had a weekend long celebration at a water park/resort hotel with the entire company and their families invited. Our experience of the company is vastly different than what you reflect. Once again, thank you for reaching out.

Pros

Having spent more than a decade at Kinsley Power Systems, I can say with confidence that it is a rare find in today’s professional landscape. Like any organization, Kinsley has its share of challenges. It isn't a perfect utopia, but the quality of the people and the level of company support more than outweigh any downsides. What truly sets Kinsley apart is its family-focused culture, specifically seen in their embrace of a flexible work schedule. By allowing a healthy mix of working from home and the office, Kinsley provides the balance necessary to actually show up for your family, not just provide for them. The most rewarding part of my tenure has been the positive relationships I’ve formed. There is a genuine sense of shared purpose here; you aren't just a number or a footnote on quarterly results—you’re a human being with shared goals. Kinsley feels like the type of company that used to be common but is increasingly difficult to find—a place where loyalty is a two-way street. Thanks to this grounded environment and their respect for my life outside of work, I fully intend to remain with the company for the remainder of my career.

Cons

As a smaller, private company, there are fewer career growth opportunities than one might find at a large, publicly traded company. However, with the amazing growth the company has seen each year, more opportunities are arising all the time.

Pros

Supportive Team Culture: Even when things get busy, the team pulls together. There’s a strong "we're in this together" mentality, and the environment feels supportive rather than competitive. I have always found there is someone to lean on for help or guidance without have to look to hard. Opportunity for Impact: If you are willing to put in the effort, there is opportunity for you to be able to create a lasting impact, along with the ability to continuously learn and grow. Stability: The industry (emergency power systems) is essential, so the work feels stable and secure compared to more volatile sectors. Hands-on Environment: Good balance of operational tasks and systems work. You aren't just a cog in the wheel; you can see how your work affects the business.

Cons

Legacy Systems: Like many companies we rely on some older ERP systems. It can sometimes be frustrating or clunky to get the data you need or to integrate with modern tools. Growing Pains: As the company grows, processes sometimes struggle to keep up. You often have to build your own solutions or workarounds to get things done efficiently. Workload: Supply chain and operations can get hectic, you never know where the next emergency will be, though this comes with the territory of working in an emergency service business.
