Pros
trauma bonding with fellow staff, free admittance to events (sometimes)
Cons
Management constantly fear mongers by threatening termination and watching you like a hawk. If you so much as accidentally drop a scarf on the ground (which is bound to happen as you're rapidly processing hundreds of checked items), you'll notice you'll start getting less shifts without being told why. The justification for their militarized approach is "it's nightlife," however I have never experienced the kind of treatment I experienced at KDC in any of the several other clubs I've worked at. Yes, nightlife requires thick skin, but a coat check gig does not warrant constant verbal abuse and a feeling of walking on eggshells. They fire people left and right with very little communication, and you'll never get a grasp on a consistent schedule so it's very difficult to balance with a primary job. My final straw was a manager threatening something legitimately illegal to the staff.
