Pros
I worked here all throughout my high school years. Overall, not the best place for high schoolers to work. *Low time commitment - centre is usually open for a few times a week (3-4 hour shifts) *Indoor, Quiet environment *Respectful kids (for the most part) *Well respected brand in the learning/education industry
Cons
*Micro-management and favoritism among tutors *Low pay (minimum wage) *Manual and repetitive work (e.g. data entry, marking papers) *Discouraged from offering any kind of teaching/guidance to students (strictly an admin role - only the supervisor could teach) *Schedules/shifts not flexible to students (lack of back-ups and not supportive of student work schedules) *Lack of collaboration and teamwork (this is important especially as many tutors are young people, connections/relationships will be very beneficial in the future) *This role is very independent and at times, isolating... I would encourage tutors that were high school students like myself to seek other work to build their network better.
