Pros

As a receptionist, I'm paid competitively, have a boss with whom I get along well and who respects my needs. We receptionists are permitted to request specific hours and days we'd like to work and most of these requests are given serious consideration. The other employees, at various job levels, are approachable, funny and interesting. There's a company picnic annually. We work in a clean, comfortable environment. The receptionist's job holds some responsibilty as cash exchanges hands, but the duties of the job are relatively simple. There is a lot of downtime with which I normally chat with the other employees, affording me very good rapport with most of them. At LGAG, we know our co-workers very well and this makes day-to-day communication easier. We're off most holidays and on Sundays. Management is not condescending and listens to gripes. They're very openminded and understanding. You usually know your schedule one month in advance.

Cons

To call out, no matter the reason, it is usually necessary to find your own coverage for the day. This can be difficult when you're very sick and would rather sleep than call around to the other receptionists to find coverage. It's sometimes difficult to take a lunch since the phones are manned only by the person attempting to take a lunch. Smoke breaks are allowed but frowned upon and you sometimes must ask for one. It is difficult to get a performance review, which is the only way to receive a raise, although the company is not stingy on pay raises.
