Pros

Decent hourly, if you don’t crash from exhaustion...

Cons

If you enjoy running wide open when you’re there and harassed on your days off (you will be called by each member of upper management to come in relentlessly every day off and treated as a leper if you say no) , this is the place for you! It honestly wasn’t a bad place when I first started, but has slowly rolled downhill and snowballed into mass chaos. You will be expected to run out of town transfers that round trip 5+ hours back to back at least. There is no room for advancement unless your a professional suck up or sleeping with the boss (a part time Paramedic that works 2 days a week if that was given an FTO position, a made up supervisor role even though she refuses to get on the truck unless FEMA deployment pay is on the table with the boss). You’ll be run into the ground by day, and then on your way on a long out of town transfer by night. Don’t expect any help from the leadership staff, there’s a good chance they put you on it so they wouldn’t have to go! Upper management is made up of spineless cowards that abandoned their crews during the recent hurricane without so much as a phone call for nearly 2 weeks but expected everyone to work overtime because “we all sustained damages, step up” even though they were MIA. It’s never about crew/patient safety, always numbers and gossip with the leadership team! If a management position is something you seek, you only have to be there 3 weeks! The hourly is good if you can stay awake and that’s about it, but if you can’t, don’t worry! The management team can tell you exactly what to say to which doctor to get you a prescription of Adderall to make sure you can crunch those numbers! More than half the staff is on it and goes to the same doctor! Even if it’s out of your scope of practice and not deemed safe for you or your patient, you’re expected to run the call because there’s numbers to make! Don’t expect your yearly evaluations to come on time, why pay you more when they can work you to death for a smidge more than minimum wage?
