Pros
Not challenging or complex. Most issues are repetitive and easy to fix issues that are people-based more than any real technology problems.
6% 401a or 457b contribution is nice and benefits are okay for someone starting off or in need of health insurance for them and their family.
Cons
High turnover.
Management is all over the place and not many have a technical background or basic understanding of how things work outside of how to turn on their monitor and use the vending machines.
Anyone that is good at their job usually moves on very quickly or is fired in a short period. It’s more for middle of the road people that maybe have a kid or are in between jobs or came from another department and want to ride it out until they retire or find something better.
They don’t have any systems in place and the pay isn’t competitive compared to other places, but it looks good on a resume saying you worked at a big corporation if you can stick around for a while without running into a landmine with management, which is kind of difficult to do because they come after everybody.
Lots of blame and micromanaging like crazy from people that might have transferred in from another department and not be qualified for the role.
Tons of compliance issues and old hardware that either plain doesn’t work or is on its way out and shouldn’t be issued to anyone, but somehow keeps being re-issued to the same few people instead of giving them a new and updated device.
It’s not a place where you can come in, be good at your job, and go home.. you have to be able to work around favoritism, nepotism, and some really unfair stuff to survive here and as a result, some really good people are harassed or written up until they either lose it or are asked not to come in tomorrow.
As a result, there are a lot of empty desks and cubicles with a few people always picking up the slack while getting chewed out and blamed more often than not.
If you’re too good at your job or start to get a reputation for caring where people ask for you, management or other employees will turn on you and make things more difficult.
Lots of toxicity and jealousy. Hours are stable, but no remote work or ability to transfer out to another department easily without management actively trying to stop it or keep you in a role too long because they can’t find or keep anyone else.
