Pros

I had the privileged opportunity to apply my low noise expertise to the world's most sensitive detector, lowering its noise floor by 15dB and thereby enabling the detection of gravity waves, proving Einstein's theory and characterizing 2 balck hole mergers in 2015.

Cons

George W. Bush wrecked budget allocations, cutting the NSF budget, which had to cut my postion at MIT Kalvi/LIGO.

Pros

I got an opportunity to boost the LIGO measurement range from 150 decibels to 165 decibels, enabling the capture of the first verifiable gravitational waves, originating from over a billion light-years distance and an event occuring over a billion years in the past. Einstein theorized the existence of these waves, but this was the first proof. Little did I know that in my engineering career I was going to end up such a critical contributor to a major scientific discovery as this.

Cons

I had to rework the electronics lab, but it was a fun challenge and opportunity to make a comfortable place for LIGO and MIT people to use for electronics advise and/or rework.
