Pros

Friendly co-workers. Misery loves company.

Cons

Extremely low pay for the quality of work they expect. Rude managers and coordinators. Messy patrons means a very messy store upon closing time. No challenge, no product knowledge required which means you're of very little use to customers. Disorganized, messy shelving system. Things are thrown everywhere. Did I mention the extremely poor wages? This job is only suitable for HS kids.

Pros

Job is very fast paced, always things to do. You get to see every item that comes in. Lots of people to talk to, train, and develop into higher jobs. I take pride growing my employees skills. Marshalls company takes pride in taking care of its employees with lots of benefits and programs to help its people.

Cons

Retail is not for everyone. High turn over of employees, based on work load and changing weekly schedules as retail hour needs fluctuate each week.

Pros

The work is the same every day (at least for janitors), and you don't have many surprises. In my experience, there is a lot of leeway for who does what as long as it gets done. I don't personally mind helping out in all departments after I am done cleaning. Current store manager (not asms) is very nice and understanding.

Cons

The management (Assistant managers in my experience) is at each other's throats to be the best out there and suck up to the district manager. The pressure to coerce customers into buying into the TJX card is a bit much. It all trickles down to the front end, which then causes everyone to be unhappy. Compensation is low and raises are based on company loyalty first, then your efficiency.
