Pros

Can’t really think of any

Cons

High turnover. The company doesn’t give many hours and the pay isn’t great. Because they don’t give many hours, most of the new hires don’t show up. The rest of the staff struggles to run the store. Everyone is basically “on call” you get maybe two days a week “on the schedule” and then they play the game of trying to get people to come in because everyone else is calling out or not showing up. Management makes good money and takes it easy, the people actually running the day to day operations are burnt out and stressed to the max. You know why there’s a long line at Marshall’s? Because they understaff the stores to “save money” The employees have to deal with all the upset customers, and when they complain, management blames the employees instead of blaming themselves for understanding the store. They allow the public to steal. It’s incredibly frustrating and confusing. You will literally get fired if you even make eye contact with a thief. People casually walk in, fill shopping carts with merchandise and casually walk out. They know the store employees are banned from stopping them. It’s insane. If you need a job to support yourself and your family, I wouldn’t suggest working for Marshalls. If you’re young and living with your parents, Marshalls may be ok for you. Otherwise, seek employment elsewhere. They make it seem so wonderful. It changes once you actually get hired. You’ve been warned!

Pros

The work is the same every day (at least for janitors), and you don't have many surprises. In my experience, there is a lot of leeway for who does what as long as it gets done. I don't personally mind helping out in all departments after I am done cleaning. Current store manager (not asms) is very nice and understanding.

Cons

The management (Assistant managers in my experience) is at each other's throats to be the best out there and suck up to the district manager. The pressure to coerce customers into buying into the TJX card is a bit much. It all trickles down to the front end, which then causes everyone to be unhappy. Compensation is low and raises are based on company loyalty first, then your efficiency.
