Pros

MaxMind has a tendency to hire highly intelligent, independent thinkers. There has been a noticeable effort to bring on more team members who harmonize with existing staff, making colleague interaction generally very uncomplicated and thus conducive to a productive work environment. Employees tend to be on the introverted side, and efforts are clearly made to accommodate the needs of each individual to ensure that they are comfortable. Remote work is welcomed and sometimes encouraged. Managers are generally fairly laid back, but not lacking in skill, passion or supportiveness. Management style does vary, of course, but there is a common theme of genuine empathy and curiosity that echoes throughout the company, which are rare commodities in business these days. Colleagues are also extremely supportive, on the whole, and are encouraged to be. Benefits are great and pay is competitive. Most employees are satisfied with their jobs and there are few, if any, poor performers/contributors. There is a distinct "we're all in this together" mentality which has potential to take the company far. 2015 is a great year for MaxMind and hopefully the same vibe will carry over into the years to come.

Cons

Training processes could be improved upon, and fortunately progress is being made where this is concerned. Some lack of organization is common but not to the extent that it is unmanageable, and for a small company, this is to be expected anyway. Encouraging current team members to continuously improve upon existing processes will smooth this out over time. Overall, the pros of working for MaxMind far outweigh the cons.

Pros

Reasonable compensation and remote first

Cons

Direction of management is changing as the company tries to grow. It's becoming more traditional and not necessarily is a good way. Micromanagment is creeping in. Marketing is becoming more of an emphasis as oppposed to product research and development. It's a place where dreams go to die all to often.
