Pros

Some really nice & talented people work at McBains. Clive Dowcra is very visible and tries to foster a spirit of openess and team work. Social and volunteer opportunities are present Good opportunities for graduates. Hybrid working. Free tea & coffee Relaxed dress in office Variety of projects is good

Cons

High turnover of staff seen in last 12 months. Unprofessional management practices including the quite obvious intention to 'force' people out if their face doesn't fit. Very little confidence that concerns over some management styles or practices would be addressed appropriately. HR very much in the background and not visible. Poor on boarding with no effort made to train new staff or provide an overview of company practice or project background. Disparity in treatment of people within teams. Under resourced in some disciplines creating unduly heavy workload. A shame that the culture promoted is not uniform across all the offices. Trust is missing between staff and senior management and in some cases between disciplines.

Toxic/weak senior management, incompetent HR department. Turning blind eye to important issues. Focussing on non-issues.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you had positive experiences with some of your colleagues, as we value the people who work here and the teamwork they bring. We’re genuinely sorry to learn that your overall experience did not meet expectations. Feedback regarding management, HR support, and workplace culture is taken seriously, and we do not dismiss concerns about how issues are identified or addressed. While we may not agree with every characterisation, we recognise that perceptions are shaped by individual experiences, and those perspectives matter. We regularly review our management practices, internal processes, and employee support structures to ensure we are creating a respectful, transparent, and effective working environment for everybody. Constructive feedback—both positive and critical—plays an important role in that process. We wish you well in your future career and appreciate you sharing your perspective, which helps inform our ongoing efforts to improve as an organisation.
