Pros

It pays comparatively well (for most positions)

Cons

Despite its strong external reputation and inspiring mission, Mercy Corps often fails to live up to its values internally. Leadership is highly U.S.-centric and opaque, with decisions made top-down and little transparency or genuine staff engagement. Internal systems are overly complex and bureaucratic, with minimal onboarding or support: newcomers are often left to sink or swim. Recent layoffs were handled with cold inefficiency and little compassion, leaving many feeling discarded and unappreciated. There’s a wide disconnect between HQ and regional teams, and a passive-aggressive culture where procedures are used to deflect responsibility rather than enable action. A disappointing experience in an organisation that should know better.

Pros

It’s a very tough time to be in ID but MC continues to stay afloat and is trying to pivot in this new landscape. I maintain the staff that’s still here is some of the best of the best, everyone really cares and continues to challenge me and push our programs to do better.

Cons

Outlook is uncertain given donor environment. No real opportunities for professional growth. Ongoing RIFs and loss of talented staff.
