Pros
Working for this company looks good on a resume (for now). Fun to work downtown with option to work remotely. Note: Be sure to check out reviews of Detroit Media Partnership also. They changed their name to Michigan.com last year in an attempt to rebrand.
Cons
The Detroit News and Free Press papers are dying. When the print side folds, there will be BIG cuts. Unless you've been the same person in charge for the last 15 years, you are absolutely discouraged from contributing anything meaningful to conversations, meetings, projects, etc. Middle management is scared to death of new employees outshining them, probably because of the frequent furloughs, buy-outs and layoffs making a constant job-threatening atmosphere. Also a lot of competitiveness and jealously among colleagues because of this. Tension and hostility EVERYWHERE. There are very, very little chances for advancement of any kind. Benefits were cut a couple years ago, using Obamacare as an excuse. The pay is lower than you can find elsewhere for the same position, and there are NO RAISES.
