Pros

You get to experience working in a laboratory, some of the work is fun.

Cons

Most of the work is repetitive and should have been automated years ago. Lots of plate counting, flicking, scanning, the main lab has terrible QA. Add on top of this the clique-y groups and bullying/patronising middle-management, constant complaints about other staff/areas of the business creating a toxic atmosphere to work in- and the REALLY bad wages there makes it not worth your time. To elaborate on QA; lots of staff get sick and when backlog becomes a problem, staff are overworked and standards slip even further - free pouring samples into agar for example! This is to the point that quality concerns are not being raised because nothing comes of them. Hardly what you want from a pathogen testing company???

Pros

Free parking is available on site

Cons

Involuntary overtime. Job is more aligned with factory work than laboratory analysis. You will be stood for the entirety of the shift completely one duty like pouring agar into plates … for 8 hours. Minimum wage.
