Pros

- Working with animals. - Potentially saving lives. - Assisting in adoptions. - Making people happy.

Cons

- Stench of kennels can be overwhelming for those who have absolutely no experience of any kind. - You will at some point have to break up a dog fight, you think it is easy but it can be frightening your first time. After that you know what to do. - The person who runs the facility does not care for the animals. I strongly recommend you try not to get attached, your heart will break every time. - Poor pay for working 40 hours a week. Oh, get good quality shoes cause you will be on your feet all day. **Tips - Do not try to upsell a dog to a person/family if you do not believe they would match their energy/other pets/kids. If the adopter wants a nice calm dog, do not try to upsell the old timer who has anxiety issues or is high energy. All this does is hurt the animal in the end. - There will be returns and surrenders. It is so easy to judge someone, but please refrain from doing so. You never now the reason behind it. Be kind and understanding. - There will be death. It is a shelter. Although some are preventable and unjustified, ultimately there is nothing you can truly do. Do not let that hinder your spirit and passion to help these poor souls. - People gossip a lot. Do not contribute to it. If they are willing to gossip about someone else to you, they will gossip about you to someone else. I am not saying keep to yourself entirely, but limit what information you put out there.

Pros

Cool environment for animal lovers :)

Cons

I really loved working there , loved taking care of the animals and people were very nice to me:) felt like I had finally found a job which I was passionate about even if the pay is not that great.. but in the end, even if I thought that everything was going well, some people were talking behind my back instead of just directly talking to me about the issues. I ended up losing my job with no clear explanation of what happened exactly. It was frustrating because I loved sharing my passion with others that loved animals too but turns out not everyone wants the best for you or anyone. I just know that I’m worth more than an association that believed lies of some backstabbers that just wanted me out of the picture. Be careful and watch your back… no one is your friend even if they’re nice to you! All hypocrites:/

Pros

Helping out and having a personal sense of accomplishment. It's an NPO which is good.

Cons

The old staff wasn't appreciative but staff has changed. Quick to point out faults but never thankful for a job well done
