Pros
Majority of people in production and 2 people in the QA department were wonderful
Cons
First off, there is a reason people say that all cannabis companies really suck to work for; they're a new industry and run by so incredibly greedy people. Working at Motif Labs was terrible right from the beginning. This was my introductory to quality assurance and let me just say now that I didn't realize going into this type of position that they truly don't care about quality. The management was horrendous in all areas of the company and most of the people in positions of power did absolutely nothing but made a disgusting amount of money in comparison to the people actually keeping operations running. We would also receive monthly letters from the CEO explicitly saying how much money was made which put a bad taste in everyone's mouth because most of us were so underpaid that we were struggling to pay rent and groceries. When I started, there were four QA associates per shift which was just never going to be enough for the work load expected, especially at the end of month when they wanted things to get done at triple the speed and quality just flew out the door. When we had a shift change over, we would have shift notes left by the QA team on the opposite shift and one person in particular would leave passive aggressive messages directed at me for the whole team to see. This went on for a very long time and I was being bullied via shift notes for the way I was taught to do things and for flagging too much while auditing (which I was told was better to do since I was still learning). The way things were done on either QA team was completely different and there was no collaboration between the two teams at all. When I brought it up to my QA coordinator and supervisor that I felt I was being bullied by this individual, they both told me that it was pretty much all in my head and it wasn't intended as an attack even after seeing the notes left. Less than three months into working in the QA department, one person on my team went on a stress leave, one person went on vacation for 3+ weeks, and one person moved to a different department which left me (the newest person) on my own. They then decided to hire 2 new people onto the team so I had to scramble to teach the position which I didn't even fully know to other people and was aggressively harassed by different areas of management when I was just one person trying to get through the day. I was being put in extremely high stress situations due to the poor organization of management and then still expected to take on the work load of a full team being one person. There were a handful of instances where the individual I was being bullied by had done overtime on my shift and would belittle me and talk down to me. When I reported these instances to my supervisor and coordinator, I was again told that it was likely all in my head and spoke to me as if I was making it up. There was then a position opened up for 3 coordinators (2 on my shift and 1 on the opposite shift) and this individual applied. Even though I spoke with my superiors about my concerns having this person on my shift and asked that if possible they could stay on the opposite shift, they decided to disregard any of my concerns and further make my life miserable by putting the person who spoke down to me and bullied me in a position of power over me. When I spoke with the QA supervisor about feeling frustrated that they put someone who I've had a continuous issue with on my shift, they told me it was just what's best for the company and disregarded my feelings and concerns. There was another instance where I did overtime on the opposite shift for someone on vacation and was approached by that shifts coordinator and told that I was making him look bad and making myself look bad because I was flagging too much while doing internal audits because again, they don't care about quality and would teach me to flag anything but then turn around and say not to. It was extremely confusing. I was so frustrated with that situation and this was after being left alone on my team for weeks and being harassed by so many different departments that I flat out said that I do not care about making myself look bad at this point. I was just so done and over being mistreated and talked down to. After 6 months of working for Motif Labs, I received an email from HR close to 5pm on one of the days I was off shift telling me they were terminating my employment and provided absolutely no reasoning. They were so cowardly that they couldn't even talk to me face to face. I called HR several times the following Monday and then I sent an email to my QA supervisor asking why my employment was being terminated. I only got a response from HR when I reached out to my supervisor and the only further explanation I got was that it was a "company decision". I had received no warnings or write ups about any misconduct so I was left confused and frustrated. Also, after doing overtime at the beginning of July, the company decided to try to withhold this money owed until after I reached out multiple times about it. This was not paid out to me with the severance and vacation money owed when my employment was terminated, so they were going to try to steal this money from me and hope I didn't notice. I don't say this lightly but I would highly NOT recommend working at Motif Labs and run as far away from this company as possible. They are an incredibly cliquish group of people and if you're not going to let them walk all over you then you'll be given the boot.
