Pros

The nature of Murex consultants' job scope (Front office) had determined that you would have the opportunity to explore business model and strategies of different treasury departments. This means, you can enjoy a very steep learning curve in the first 3 yeas in Murex. The culture of the company helps you to grow not only your functional skills, but also your soft skills. Seniors would always teach you the best way to communicate with clients, and the best way to handle a crisis. After 3 years, you would normally (provide if you are not an lazy bug who slacks at work) have: 1. Very good understanding of one or two financial asset class (Interest rate, Commodity, Fixed income, FX derivatives, Credit derivatives or equity derivatives). 2. Very good communication and presentation skills. 3. Maturity in understanding banks' business flow.

Cons

Narrow career path at later stage (5 years and onwards) Typical career progress. 1. Consultant 2. Senior consultant 3. Product domain expert // Team manager // Client management // Senior support coordinators, depends on what's your preference or what are available for you. Salary progress would be comparable with banks at initial years. After 4 or 5 years, the salary grows is more close to an IT support role in the bank, but lower than a business analyst or trading support role in the bank. Good consultants in Murex normally seek for a salary counter-offer when they reach 3-4 years maturity and call it (marked to market). Good thing is, Murex values its "good employees" and would really counter offer you to match your expectation.
