Pros

When I worked there, I had the fortune of working with several good colleagues. Unfortunately, they've all since left. I think some of the offices are better managed than others.

Cons

Despite NATIONAL's service offerings including internal communications, employee engagement and issues management, they unfortunately are completely unable of applying these "skills" in house with their employees. Head office is completely unable and unwilling to address the route cause of problems (i.e. members of the management team). Leadership and HR refused to appropriately deal with sexual harassment perpetrated by a member of the senior leadership team (this member has actually won a company award for visionary leadership). In one calendar year, approximately 10 people left the specific location/office I worked at. That speaks volumes.

Pros

Opportunities to work with the largest clients in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, and sometimes the rest of Canada. Opportunities to learn from elite talent. Opportunities to use innovative software tools. Opportunities to work on files outside your specialty. Opportunities to work with sister firms on files in the United States and Europe. Ability to decline work based on conscience. Ability to join an exceptional in-person office culture versus other NATIONAL branches and other public relations firms. Access to senior management in a flat bullpen. Senior management support against rude or offensive clients. Implicit support to pursue exit opportunities.

Cons

Typical agency downward salary pressure. Parent company downward salary pressure. Occasional weekend work culture. Implicit weekday hustle culture. Implicit on-call obligations during holidays. Unclear promotional timelines. Inconsistent performance metrics.
