Pros

A center which should be good for doing some cutting edge research.

Cons

During my tenure at the NIAID IRF facility, I encountered a notably unpleasant situation. The center's leadership is plagued by considerable financial mismanagement and favoritism. Despite being accused of sexual misconduct on more than three occasions, one faculty member retained his position, while those who reported these issues were compelled to leave. Recently, the facility was shut down due to breaches in safety protocols, as incidents were not adequately reported to higher authorities. The center is infamous for its misuse of taxpayer money and for generating mediocre scientific research. Most of the leadership is unaware of the research being conducted, leading to a significant waste of both animal and human resources.

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
