Pros

Give young people experience of working in Spain.

Cons

I write this as a mother of someone who spent a year working at Number 16. My comments are therefore not based on first-hand experience of working there but as first-hand experience of having to pick up the pieces of someone who has worked there. I realize that this can be a place to vent but hopefully my review will give another viewpoint and add to the body of evidence against this unkind company. I said goodbye to my daughter a year ago when she flew to Spain for her first overseas teaching job. She was keen to give her energy, teaching experience and enthusiasm and was looking forward to gaining further experience in a safe and supportive working environment. She has now left, disillusioned, mentally and emotionally crushed. Number 16 are registered as a dormant UK and therefore are regulated by UK employment law. Their work practices are at best poor and at worst illegal. Their ethics and values are appalling and boarder on bully-boy tactics. 1-They do not deliver on their promise as claimed on their website ie “We take care of everything to make your stay comfortable and worry-free. If you need a VISA, we will get it for you! We will take care of all the necessary paperwork needed to work in Spain after Brexit!”. They do not get working Visas for UK citizens. My daughter was working in Spain for a year and Number 16 did not get her visa. 2-They do not “make the stay comfortable and worry-free” and they do not look after the wellbeing of their staff. There are many young people who choose to work overseas at Number 16. Most for the first time. They must navigate the complex process of finding accommodation and settling into a new foreign city. Not easy in your own country but very stressful in another, in a foreign language. No support offered. 3-A legal obligation of applying for a work visa is that the company provide private health cover outside of the Spanish system. My daughter was there for 6 months before Number 16 provided health cover. This show no duty of care towards their employees and a poor value set. 4- My daughter requested leave for Christmas in October. This was approved two days beforehand.

Pros

It is an easy job to get as a Native English speaker. They pay minimum wage & give you chances to excel. They help you get your social security number for Spain.

Cons

They exploit young workers by attracting them to move or live in their Spanish cities, but then giving them unpredictable work schedules (despite requests and disclaimers). They foster a hostile work environment by making young teachers feel they are constantly under evaluation and can be fired at any moment. Where they get you is that once you've dedicated the probation period, you don't gain any more trust, benefits, better work schedule, or higher paid. Instead you gain more responsibilities, and the deal with the side effects of a rapid turn over rate.

Pros

You get to live in Spain. They don’t make you pay for all the paperwork like government programs

Cons

I repeat if you respect yourself do not take this job. You work on their terms using the methodology. Your classes were always moved so you can’t built relationships with the kids as well as other teaching jobs. They treat you like a job and number 16 is the priority you are to then.
