Pros

I've never worked for a company where what they told me in the interview (especially about company values and culture) align with what the job ends up being. Nathan James has lived up to and surpassed my expectations. Their operating values aren't just talking points—that's actually what guides how we operate. Work-life balance is important and emphasized. Asynchronous communication means that you can structure your day around your life and schedule as long as you're accountable for your work and get it done on time. Timelines for projects are also extremely realistic. I came from a fast-paced ad agency that over-communicated and had crazy deadlines. Nathan James has been the most refreshing change from that. Meetings are scarce, and the communication we do have is thoughtful and purposeful. Genuinely can't say enough good things about my experience at NJ so far.

Cons

Like others have said, fully remote work and async communication aren't for everyone. It works really well with my personality and work style, but I'd recommend you really read through NJ's operating values and about the company before applying. If you value work-life balance, hate unnecessary meetings, love clear expectations and don't need work to support you socially, then NJ is the place for you!

Pros

I've worked in many distribution/fulfillment environments and I'm proud to say that working for Nathan James has been so refreshing. The executive team gives their team the freedom to implement projects without having to go through all the red tape you typically see in a corporate environment. Everyone on the team is incredibly smart, hard-working, and willing to lend a hand when needed. Work-life balance is hard to come by when working in supply chain. Nathan James respects their employees time and allows them the freedom to work around their life outside of work. People with strong time management will thrive in the environment they have developed over the years.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say about this company. They know what their opportunities are but consistently work on improving on them. I've seen numerous positive changes within my time with the company and fully believe this team will continue on the great path they have already paved.

Pros

Fair hourly pay with decent health, vision, and dental benefits.

Cons

Toxic and unprofessional work environment. Favoritism is common, leading to inconsistencies in management and decision-making. Employees in non-exempt roles are often misclassified as salaried workers, which results in excessive unpaid overtime. This is misleadingly framed as a “benefit,” but in reality, employees often work significantly more hours than they would if paid hourly. There is no structured HR department and no formal workplace training. Compliance with labor laws and workplace safety regulations is minimal, making this a liability risk. Safety policies are either nonexistent or ignored, with a lack of standard procedures for things like Lockout/Tagout. Acquiring proper PPE was often difficult, and in some cases, employees were discouraged or even ridiculed for requesting it. The workplace culture fosters hostility, with frequent unprofessional behavior, including inappropriate comments about female colleagues. Employee relations often escalate into harassment or even threats. PTO is minimal, with sick time and vacation time unfairly combined into a single pool. There is a desperate need for a comprehensive employment contract and a detailed employee handbook.

Nathan James Response

Thank you for all your contributions at Nathan James, you did very impactful work at the warehouse that helped the company. We appreciate the feedback you shared. While we don't agree with most of your post, there are certain areas we've been working hard to improve in - mainly continuing to improve our training and safety protocols. We understand you experienced 3 management changes at the warehouse during your 2 years tenure. We went through some growing pains to find the right leader and establish a strong culture in our first warehouse. We're proud of the team and culture we've finally built. We're now in the top bracket nationally when it comes to having the highest warehouse employee retention which says a lot. We were happy to have you on the team and did our best to make this as good of an environment as possible. We went above and beyond when you resigned, by offering a 12 week severance out of good faith to thank you for your services. Sad to see you felt our company was a 1 star . Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours.
