Pros
The hospital has a great reputation in the community, there's a pension plan, and it's a big enough system that you can move laterally once you're part of the system.
Cons
Leadership's focus is completely off. If you want evidence based practice, look elsewhere. Leadership are nit-picky about simple things, but allow major patient care issues to fall through the cracks. We still use paper charting and handwritten orders - the hospital likes its docs too much to require them to use computerized orders. Northside's focus is on keeping its physicians happy, and they really couldn't care less about their nurses. Understaffed, under appreciated, and poorly managed. They treat their nurses like grade school kids who need scolding. Physicians have access to resources like UpToDate and Krames, but nurses do not. Also, while there are plenty of opportunities to move laterally around the hospital system, there is almost zero upward mobility.
