Pros
Lots of freedom as an adjunct professor - teach what you want. I was interviewed, hired, then trusted to do a good job.
Cons
There's no collegiality between faculty members. No support from the dean or chair of my department whenever there was drama with students. I had one student make a sexual comic about me and administration didn't care. Had another student threaten violence, he was not reprimanded and I instead had to have security on standby. The dean told me I should aim for zero student complaints, even though I was teaching a class of 250 18 year olds. Zero support from dean/chair/union. I finally left because the university decided to dock my pay by $3k per class. Then, the person hired after me stole my teaching materials and taught from what I'd spent hundreds of hours preparing, with no compensation to me, of course. Prepare to be chewed up and spat out.
