Pros

One espresso machine, select few friendly staff

Cons

This company can only be described as tumultuous, difficult, and volatile. I’ve never encountered so much indecisiveness and micromanagement from senior level before—making it nearly impossible to meet deadlines and actually quantify your work. The role scope CONSTANTLY changes and you are expected to work yourself into the ground trying to be multiple roles with no support, even if you don’t have formal training for specific tasks they ask of you. Extremely thankless and unappreciative of the tasks you are able to achieve amidst the chaos they create. Managers throw you under the bus in front of senior management to save themselves knowing they haven’t checked in with you or asked about your immediate roadblocks—which unsurprisingly is the team’s lack of decision making. There is a clear leadership issue that is going unaddressed and has zero strategic vision. No mentorship and zero on-boarding, which will lead to easy mistakes which they will absolutely flame you for. Yelling, swearing, and condescending tones happen in the open and being closed doors. Don’t expect to be promoted here. Unsurprising high turnover occurring. Colleagues share similar experiences of stress, crying and being patronized in meetings. This company rotates favourite employees of the week. Employees asked to separate if they become close. Employees are surveilled by cameras across building and parking lots, staff, and key-code entry to record timestamps. No employee perks to mention for a company that owns multiple restaurant/cafe brands. Do yourself a favour and decline your offer.

Pros

Free coffee, sometimes free food

Cons

The list goes on. For starters, if you don’t like micromanagement, I would stay clear. If you are a human and might make a slight mistake here or there, be prepared to get an earful. I’ve been in one-on-one meetings with high ups where I would be berated for over an hour just because there was a spelling mistake or a low quality image. My last meeting I was told directly by a higher up “it’s only a matter of time before you quit or you get fired” regarding the longevity of the job. I then proceeded to quit as I refuse to live in constant fear that I may lose my livelihood any moment. People there have all their emails printed out and highlighted because they live in fear that they will be next in the blame game they like to play, so you always have to have back up prepared to prove that you’re innocent. I’ve heard more tears than laughter. Some departments are the scapegoats for the higher ups and will always be the reason for everything that goes wrong in the company. They refuse to take accountability but tell everyone else that they are like that. They will force you to apologize for things you didn’t do, and when you do, they then berate you over it. People are on edge every day for the next shoe to drop. I can only speculate but from experience, I’d say that the positive reviews here are strongly $encouraged$. Leaving obsidian was the best thing I ever did for my career, and mental & physical well being.
