Pros

I started when Gary Fish was still with us. At that point it was fantastic. All the training / education you can handle, be it the classes that FishNet taught or expensing a book from Amazon that is loosely related to infosec. Sending people to DEF CON was a no-brainer. Why wouldn't you want to immerse employees in that great learning experience. It was (at the time) $200 for the ticket and about $500 for airfare / hotel.

Cons

These days I have to jump through hoops to even spend the "allowance" that is supposedly given to every employee each year for education. Going on four months and my request is still floating around somewhere. I've passed every single certification I've attempted under employment with this company. Why is Optiv suddenly busting balls for employees who want to better themselves with more education? Why is there even a cap on the "allowance"? If it's legitimately related to your job and you want to learn more, get more certs, etc. why is the company standing in the way?

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We apologize that your request for training has not been processed at a timely manner. At Optiv, we work hard to ensure that requests for training are efficient to process and relevant to the employee and will look into this issue to ensure that a request is not accidentally stuck into the queue. If this happens to be the case, we will correct the issue as soon as possible. We can assure you that budgets for employee training have not changed, as we pride ourselves on having the most highly trained security force in the industry. To your comment about DEF CON, our presence there was significant in 2015 and we have planned on another large investment for 2016, mainly in our experts speaking and attending sessions and collaborating with teammates. Optiv is also partnering with many other conferences and industry events, either through direct sponsorship and/or having our team members share their expertise. In addition, we have planned exciting new training opportunities that will be available to employees, that were not previously offered. Those initiatives are directed towards career growth and development and we are looking forward of rolling them out. We appreciate your feedback and we are committed to ensuring that all of our employees are successful in their careers and training is a vital part of that effort. Please, feel free to reach out to the proper leadership team in charge of these initiatives if you have additional concerns. Thank you for continuing to place your confidence in us!

Pros

Unlimited PTO Supportive Management Depending on who you get Good work life balance as long as you don't take the job with you after hours Work from Home Hands on Training - could still use improvement Annual pay increase

Cons

2 layoffs in a year when they keps saying everything was fine.... Laying off core contributors so now everyone who is left is doing the work of 2-3 people and not being compensated accordingly Only way to get a worth while pay increase is to move up in the company the annual increases are not inline with inflation or cost of living
