Pros

Some colleagues were supportive and tried their best despite the toxic environment

Cons

If minus stars were possible, PCI would deserve them. My experience was not just disappointing — it was exhausting, demoralising, and deeply unhealthy. This is an unstable workplace driven by fear, poor leadership, and a complete lack of transparency. The culture is toxic. Communication within departments and between staff, line managers, and senior management is chaotic and ineffective. Information is inconsistent, expectations change daily, and there is no clear direction. Critical details are poorly communicated. Yet when something inevitably goes wrong — often because of this very failure in communication — management immediately looks for someone to blame. There is a strong blame culture. Instead of taking accountability for poor systems or unclear instructions, individuals are dragged into HR and subjected to disciplinary action, sometimes over a single mistake. This can happen even when the task was not clearly assigned or not even part of your job description. There is no fair investigation of root causes — the assumption is always that the employee is at fault. It creates a climate of fear where people are afraid to speak, ask questions, or take initiative. Staff turnover is constant. People either leave to protect their wellbeing or are pushed out. Around 15 employees were made redundant without warning, reinforcing how little value is placed on people. Employees are repeatedly told the company is “not performing well,” but no clear strategy, reassurance, or future plan is ever shared. The future of the site feels uncertain, yet leadership keeps everyone in the dark. Favouritism is deeply embedded. Promotions are not based on competence, performance, or technical knowledge. They tend to go to those who are socially aligned with management or part of the inner circle. Meanwhile, genuinely hardworking and capable employees are overlooked. Those who are promoted often contribute less operational work than others, delegating excessively while the real workload falls on the rest of the team. It is unfair, unprofessional, and extremely demotivating. Senior management appear robotic and emotionally detached, showing little empathy or genuine concern for staff wellbeing. Employees are treated like numbers on a spreadsheet rather than human beings. Flexible working has been removed, decisions are made behind closed doors, and the isolated location only adds to the daily stress.

Pros

• Good benefits package • Competitive pay • Helpful employees throughout the organization who are willing to provide guidance and support when needed • Flexible work environment with the ability to work both remotely and in the office while maintaining a high degree of independence.

Cons

For prospective candidates, be aware that this role involves highly specialized and complex DEA regulatory work with a steep learning curve. Training and departmental support will be very limited, so employees are often expected to learn independently and navigate challenges on their own. This is very much a "sink or swim" environment that requires a high level of self-motivation, adaptability, and resourcefulness to be successful. • Lack of leadership, direction, and departmental support. • Minimal onboarding and training, resulting in a "sink or swim" work environment. • Limited collaboration and teamwork within the department. • Uneven workload distribution and unrealistic expectations for employees to independently navigate complex processes. • Few opportunities for mentorship, professional development, and long-term career growth within the department.
