PETA eliminated the HR manager role so now there is hardly any oversight of department heads. There was no unified voice responding to COVID-19 and for several weeks conflicting direction was given. Including that the virus was no worse than the flu, seriously delayed permission to work from home for those who could, incorrect claims about what constitutes a “large gathering” and a bizarre email suggesting facial coverings be worn during Zoom meetings (it is still not clear if this was a joke in poor taste or if there was actually a belief that there was exposure risk when meeting on Zoom). This is just one example of the shortcomings of operating without proper HR direction. There are also serious disparities of working conditions between departments and even within departments. You could get lucky and end up in a division that has healthy habits but you could also end up in something very toxic. Good luck figuring out which is which before you accept an offer.
