Pros
You can pick your own title and manipulate your way into favor quickly, if you're willing to break a few commandments. Tell the boss she's wonderful - or better yet emulate her in some way (i.e. break more commandments) - and you'll rise to the top quickly.
Cons
If someone's better at sucking up than you are, you're hosed. The company employs a studs-and-duds approach to hiring. There are a few people paid well, and a bunch that are just lucky to have jobs for one reason or another. Those that are paid well are expected to carry those who aren't. No paid training, weird restrictions and expectations regarding per diem and "saving the company money". We were once told how many squares of toilet paper each person was expected to use, and how much water to drink from the cooler. Lots of odd cheapskate things regarding supplies, equipment, licenses, etc.
