Pros

Staff and management are really nice people, they are willing to help you and teach you. You get a 3 months probation period. You get time off easily and your hours are consistent. You get monthly free lunches and donuts. The job itself is mediocre at best. The people there makes the job a bit better.

Cons

You are looking at a close to minimum wage position, do not expect to have a career path as you are looking at 3+ years before you are promoted. You are not expected to get a raise every year as well, you do get bonuses but it is hard to determine how the bonuses are calculated. The job can be boring at times and there is only so much of building material you can look at. You also eat your lunch in the hallway. At the end of the day, this job is more like a pitstop. You stay for a while and you move on to bigger and better things after you gain the experience. The owner expects you to leave and he is ok with it.

Pros

Paid vacation and sick days. Drug and dental coverage, but not 100%. Profit sharing. Pizza once a month, cake for someone’s birthday, free coffee.

Cons

I will keep this as short as possible with concise points, but if I could write an essay I would. Only work here if you have no other option. This is the most toxic work environment I have ever been a part of and it is all overlooked by management because they see everyone as replaceable. The owner of the company came in to the lab and told employees that “they are all just lab rats and are all replaceable”. Everyone I worked with, worked extremely hard and did not deserve the treatment they received. Specifically, the manager of the prep group is the absolute worst. She is known in the lab for making people cry and then making light of it to others. Numerous complaints have been made about her and how she treats people over the years that she has worked there. In my short time there, almost everyone in her department make the same complaints to HR and they do nothing about it. Someone who had worked there for years walked out and never came back because of this manager’s mistreatment, and because she knew that HR would do nothing. I had no problem with the job I was doing, up until the demand was something I was not able to keep up with on my own. I was skipping breaks and unpaid lunch to try and get everything done, and I was even staying late to finish. When I brought this up to my manager and asked for help, her response was to get mad at me and deny any additional help. She refused to compensate me for staying late. I was asked about what I thought would help me get the work load done and she shut down any suggestion I made and offered no suggestions for resolution herself. This was the last straw for me and I knew I could not stay here any longer. I left here miserable every single day. I woke up every day before work nauseous from anxiety because I didn’t know how that day would go. We all had to tiptoe around our manager because her mood and responses were so unpredictable. If you asked a question, you would get lectured or yelled at and pulled into her office after. If you asked someone else a question instead of her and she found out, you would get yelled at. When myself and others mentioned to HR that we were feeling extreme anxiety and distress about coming to work, we were referred to the associate care website to explore our “available resources”. They avoid dealing with her because she “runs a tight ship”. Aside from all of that, you do not get paid well. The benefits don’t cover vision care. It takes years before they will let you move to a different department. Moving up is not dependent on your experience or ability but instead on the number of years you have worked there. Work anywhere else but here. It is not worth it. I deeply regret my time wasted here.
