Pros

The job is very interesting and it includes new things all the time. The management team encourages the employees to take initiative and pick their tasks, do the research and execute them. There is great support by the managers, who make themselves available to answer questions and even take calls late at night or during the weekends. The work schedule if very flexible, and we are given the ability to work from home. Each salaried employee is given 3 weeks of PTO to start and an additional day of PTO each year they continue with the company. Friendly and easygoing co-workers are always willing to help if they can. One of the things I really enjoy is that almost every employee has his/her own office, and you can concentrate without being interrupted.

Cons

Given the fact that this is a startup company, the salaries they offer are not as competitive as other established companies. Working for a startup comes also with the uncertainty of future success, or advancement of a career. Pay raises are also not a guarantee. The management team is clearly still figuring out the best ways of managing the product, the workload, and the employees.

Pros

- From day 1 you are doing real work. Co-workers respect and expect your ability to contribute meaningfully. - Flexible work schedule. Management is not micromanaging your hours or location. There is of course an expectation to do your work well and completely, but there is trust that you will. - Many opportunities to learn a lot quickly at this young company. If there's some area you're particularly interested in you are able to jump in and take ownership of that.

Cons

- Lower than market salaries and few if any benefits. - Lack of clarity about the future and direction of the company. This is perhaps true of any startup, but is nonetheless a reality. There are clear short term goals, but the long term goals tend to shift as different opportunities come up.
