Thanks for the review. You're right. We own a lot of this. We've had a lot of turnover over the years. Something that we've really struggled with cracking the code on - it wasn't just one thing. It was a lot of little things that we've worked really hard to fix. To name a few:
- Better compensation
- Better benefits
- More flexibility with how we work and where we work
- More clarity within roles and responsibilities
- More transparency
- More accountability (for employees and leadership)
- Less oversharing from leadership (more to come here)
- More professional development opportunities
- More opportunities for promotion
- More clarity and less ambiguity for how to grow in your role and get promotions/raises, and less subjectivity around this
- More psychological safety
- Better feedback mechanisms
- More opportunities for offering consistent feedback
- Better management and leadership
- And perhaps most importantly, more diversity (still a major focus and work in progress)
++++++++++++ soooo much more. We got a new bag and some new suede shoes and we're moving forward.
Full transparency - we had to do a full rebuild since the beginning of the pandemic - this is something we're not proud of. Most of what happened was out of our control, and some of it was within our control. It was a tough few years for everyone.
As for going above and beyond and doing the job of 2-3 people, we've learned a lot from this feedback. We've worked really hard to create more clear lines in our employees' Roles & Responsibilities within their job descriptions. The past was tough - we all had to wear a lot of hats. We were a small team, but thankfully we rebuilt and have grown a lot in numbers. We have a lot more heads and with that fewer hats per head.
As for bringing our personal issues into the workplace...again, spot on. We've really taken this feedback to heart. There's a difference between sharing openly and leading with vulnerability versus overburdening those around you. We got lost in our work, and some personal challenges we were struggling with, and we blurred the lines between colleagues and confidants. Today, we lead from the former - not oversharing, but still being open, honest, and vulnerable humans. We want to show others that it's ok to show up with all of your imperfections, but also that we're here to do a j-o-b. There's a razor-thin edge here and we think we've found that really sweet spot.
All that to say, we're really proud of how we've rebuilt. Both as a company, but also as leaders. We learned a lot about ourselves through that tumultuous time. We really grew up through this experience. I'll bet if you spoke to a few of our teammates over these last few years, you would hear undercurrents of all of the positive lessons learned from such a challenging time. Again, know that we hate that these lessons were at your expense. For the things that were in our control, we hate that there were a few fallen leaflets that really got the brunt of our challenges as leaders. There are no words. Know that we've worked really hard to take what we could from this period. We hope this is enough for future leaflets to find a safe landing here. We're sorry that these lessons were at your (and others) expense.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback. Know that we heard you and really took what you had to say to heart. If you have any additional feedback, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Thank you,
