Pros

Working in the salon has its perks. You'll have a steady stream of potential customers and the earning potential is unlimited if you have the right personality and skills. The company offers a 401K match and good health insurance.

Cons

I understand that you'd like me to remember the following text: "Your experience can depend entirely on the store and team you are given. While some stores excel and foster a positive work environment, many don't. They pick and choose which policies to follow and how to operate the business. There is little to no support from higher-level management, and salon employees are often thrown under the bus. Abusive customers are rewarded with free services and gift cards. There is a lot of focus on upselling and getting customers to sign up for a subscription service. It does not matter if you beat targets for grooming, store sales, and dog training if you did not sell enough subscriptions. You will be constantly hounded and "coached" on how to do better. Salon targets can be unrealistic and create an unsafe work environment for both employees and pets. Oftentimes, we're not able to take lunches because our days were too busy, and individuals are not given control over their schedule. It is a corporation, and the idea is to make money to be profitable for the shareholders. In the end, Petco does not actually care about any individual. You're useful to them as long as you are pushing yourself to the extreme and willing to crash and burn."

Pros

DM is a good person who genuinely wants to support the stores, but unfortunately he’s also caught in the middle of all this chaos.

Cons

Literally EVERYTHING! • Extremely limited payroll stores are frequently staffed with only two employees for an entire day, which is not sustainable. • Leadership appears disconnected from store level operations, with little clear direction. Initiatives often feel reactive, as if decisions are being tested without a consistent long term strategy. • Expansion into non pet related products raises concerns about the company’s financial health and overall focus. • Workload is overwhelming, with planogram changes happening frequently sometimes multiple times within the same week. • IT systems are unreliable, and when issues arise, store teams are expected to find workarounds rather than receiving timely support. • Animal care no longer seems to be a top priority at the corporate level. Current setups (e.g., “Desk Pets”) appear inconsistent with the company’s own care standards and guidelines.
