Pros

- Fast-growing organization with a compelling concept - Clean, modern facilities that create a great customer experience - Generally transparent culture at a surface level - Dedicated, hardworking teammates at the center level - Fear Free approach and high-quality patient care are genuine priorities - PetfolkCare truly helps reduce barriers to care and improves accessibility for customers

Cons

- Constant metric shifts with no time for initiatives to stabilize or succeed before the next priority is introduced - Career growth is undoubtedly limited, with advancement not consistently tied to performance or impact - Significant fragmentation across departments — teams operate in silos with little alignment or accountability - Requests for support are often ignored unless they directly benefit senior leadership priorities - “Startup culture” is used as justification to consistently ask teams to do more with less, without the infrastructure to support it - Culture has drifted away from being people-first; frontline experience does not reflect stated values - People Team feels disconnected from the day-to-day reality of the organization - PTO policies are restrictive, and operational demands make it difficult to actually take time off - Excessive check-ins and meetings that create the appearance of progress without enabling real execution

Pros

I’ve worked in HR in organizations that have grown through acquisitions, and one thing I’ve always seen is how hard it can be to maintain a consistent culture when you’re integrating lots of different legacy practices. One of the things I really appreciate about Petfolk is that our de novo model allows us to build our culture intentionally from the ground up. When we open a new Pet Care Center, we’re bringing in teams that are aligned around the same values and way of working from day one. I also really appreciate that we’re a technology-forward veterinary company. We’re constantly thinking about how technology can support better workflows, better communication, and ultimately better care for pets and a better experience for the teams providing that care. Another thing that stands out is that we are very metrics-driven. In veterinary medicine there can sometimes be hesitation around data, but here it’s used in a way that supports better decision-making and helps teams focus on providing the best medicine possible.

Cons

Because of our growth, the environment is fast-paced. Not everything is fully built yet, and sometimes we’re figuring things out as we grow. For people who prefer a very structured, long-established organization, that may feel challenging. But for people who enjoy building and improving things, it’s actually one of the most rewarding parts of working here.
