Pros

- Located downtown so it's easy to get to. - Free food on Wednesdays. - You can bring your dog if you feel like it. - You can begin your day pretty much whenever you want. - Decent benefits.

Cons

Where do I begin... General Issues: - You'll be asked to work late without any notice. For example, you'll get assigned a task around 4-5pm and told "this needs to be done before you leave." - You'll be asked to work weekends with just one or two days notice. - You won't get compensated for overtime (unless you count Chinese takeout as compensation). - On a related note, you also won't get compensated for any extra parking you'll have to pay when staying late or working extra days. - Very high turnover. Expect to see new people come in, work hard, and then promptly get fired two weeks later without explanation from management. - Some departments are very heavily understaffed for the amount of work they have to do. Development Issues: - There are no coding standards or consistency. Everyone codes in whatever style they want, very often without any comments or documentation. - Expect to fix management's untested code. If you don't properly test your code before you commit it to the repository, you'll hear about it, but the code management writes isn't held to the same standard. Management will routinely commit code without testing and then blame you for breaking the project (happened more times than I can remember). - You'll inherit other people's projects without any documentation on how the project is structured, how the APIs the client wants you to use works, or anything else to bring you up to speed. - You'll come across a lot of unnecessary, needlessly complex , "clever" designs. How You'll Get Fired: Here's how Plastic Mobile fires their employees. First, someone from management will tell you that you have a very important meeting with a client. This will either be late in the day (past 6pm) or very early in the morning before anyone comes in. Someone from management will walk over with you to a meeting room that's outside the office (in the same building) but before he or she walks in they'll say, "whoops, I forgot something" and head back to the office. You'll walk into the meeting room and not see anyone representing the client, but the rest of the management staff that's there are all smiles as you sit down, ready to take notes on this very important meeting... and then they tell you you're fired. The management staff that "forgot something" actually went to grab all of you possessions (jackets, bags, computer equipment, everything) for you because they won't allow you back into the office. There are no warnings, there's no notice, no employee reviews, no opportunities to discuss any issues you might have, nothing. Incredibly unprofessional, to say the least.

Pros

Learned on the job, so and so, it was ok, no major complaints.

Cons

There was too much micromanagement. I advice giving employees more leeway.
